Annual Bursary

Also designed to mirror our work in Israel as the largest provider of childcare services, Na’amat Canada Calgary is pleased to have set up an annual bursary at Bow Valley College. Based on financial need, this bursary is open to female students in their final year of study in the Early Learning and Child Care Diploma program. By empowering these women, children will be well taken care of in the future- just as they are in Israel.

Bow Valley College’s Mission Statement: To include all learners. To challenge our thinking. To remove barriers. To provide opportunity. To make all learning count.

Soup for Seniors

IMG4204 Calgary Soup groupSoups for Seniors was co-sponsored by Na'amat Canada Calgary and the Beth Tzedec Synagogue. The program was in support of Jewish Family Service (JFS) and was held on  Tuesday, December 10, 2013..  The Na'amat members used the kitchen at Beth Tzedec's to prepare the Kosher soups, which were given to people in need in our community through JFS.

A very cold, stormy and icy evening on December 10th turned into an extremely gratifying experience for our Na'amat members knowing we were providing healthy soups for people in need in our community.  It was also a really fun team building experience.  When we were finished preparing the four delicious Parve soups, we had packaged 97 containers.  We prepared a Tomato Soup a Pea Soup, a Red Lentil Soup and a Minestrone Soup, which we are sure will be enjoyed by all.  Click here to download the recipes.

School Supplies for Kids

photo3Each fall, Na'amat Calgary packs over 1000 backpacks for children in thirteen Calgary area shelters. Members of Na'amat Calgary liaise with the shelters, sponsors, schools, and the media and they purchase the supplies and arrange for the packing and the delivery of the completed backpacks.

For a feature video of our 18th Annual Packing Day with the Calgary Roughnecks, click here.

This well-known project gives us much needed exposure in Calgary, however; it is also very labour intensive and we are always looking for more assistance. A committee has been struck and your help would be appreciated. Click here for more information about School Supplies for Kids.

Leadership Retreat

Western leadership seminarThis past May, National president Orit Tobe-Nusbaum joined members of Na’amat Canada Calgary and Na’amat Canada Edmonton for a leadership retreat held at the Tim Hortons Ranch in beautiful Kananaskis country. Fifteen ladies joined together to form new bonds and to learn more about the valuable work that Na’amat does in Israel and Canada. Great discussions were had and the weather was amazing. We had such a fabulous time that it was decided by all in attendance, that we would make this an annual event at Tim Hortons.
