Subsidies and Scholarships

Just as Na'amat educational facilities are accessible to all in Israel, we in Canada try to uphold this mandate by providing students, from preschool through university, with the opportunity to attend educational institutions.

Pre-School Subsidies

Na'amat Canada Toronto strives to promote Jewish identity and strengthen the fabric of the community with its affiliation with the Bialik Hebrew Day School. Na'amat members support the belief that no Jewish child should be denied a Jewish education; thus the Pre-School Subsidy Program was initiated. Now, these subsidies provide entrance to the Bialik Hebrew Day School's pre-school for youngsters who would not be able to attend without financial assistance. These children are offered an enriched cultural education and a stimulating curriculum taught in four languages (English, Hebrew, French and Yiddish.)

Camp Scholarships

From September through June, a student's education takes place in the classroom, but learning does continue throughout the summer for kids and teens who attend camp and other outdoor programs. Camp Gesher in Cloyne, Ontario and Camp Miriam, on Gabriola Island, British Columbia, are part of Habonim Dror, the Zionist youth branch of the Na'amat family. Na'amat Canada provides these sleep-away camps the opportunity to issue summer scholarships to families in financial need, so that underprivileged children can have the chance to go to camp.

“Tamara is the daughter of a single mom who had trouble making ends meet when she was working. In May, Tamara's mother lost her job and is struggling to find employment. Coming to camp each summer is the only Jewish activity Tamara is involved in, and at the end of the summer she told me that it was the best summer yet. On behalf of Tamara, I'd like to say thank you—todah raba!”

Edmonton Bursaries

Designed to mirror Na'amat's scholarship program in Israel, Edmonton Na'amat is proud to provide annual bursaries in Alberta to further advanced education. These bursaries are available to female students enrolled in any certificate or diploma program. Most often they are awarded on the basis of financial need and preference is given to single mothers.
