Social Programs for Seniors
Na'amat Canada has members of every generation and we take pride in looking after the needs of all our chaverot. Many of our cities have recruited volunteers to help facilitate a variety of activities and social programs for seniors.
Luncheon programs are held at a meeting hall or party room on a monthly basis. A home-style lunch is served while our guests are entertained by speakers or performers. Topics range from health to history and from classical music to Yiddish folk songs. The sense of camaraderie and good cheer always fills the room at these popular lunchtime programs.
Matinée theatre outings are planned during the summer months at summer-stock playhouses. An air-conditioned bus is hired for a day's outing to see a comedic play or musical. The group usually stops at a nearby terrace or restaurant to have lunch before the show. These wonderful field trips are usually filled to capacity!
Some of our local chapters organize a hamentaschen bake and prepare mishloach mannot baskets at Purim. They deliver the care packages to the homes of our aging members, as well as to Jewish seniors' residences and nursing homes. The baskets contain hamentaschen and a variety of other sweets and goodies to help celebrate the holiday.
Local chapters also help to brighten seniors' Chanukah by organizing a party and concert. Members, friends, and family enjoy sweet treats, light the chanukiah together and sing favourite holiday songs to entertain the audience.
