Since the 1920s, Na'amat has been at the forefront of advancing equality, showing how women and men can collaborate in harmony while empowering women to improve their families and communities.

In those early years, Na'amat was known as Pioneer Women. Its members worked tirelessly in fields, factories, and communal kitchens, building better lives for women in Israel—long before the country became a state. Among its first leaders was Golda Meir, whose passion and courage continue to inspire everything Na'amat stands for today. The name Na'amat itself is an acronym in Hebrew, meaning the Movement of Working Women and Volunteers, reflecting the heart of our mission.

Today, Na'amat is the largest women’s movement in Israel, setting the standard for advancing human rights across the globe. With chapters in eight countries—including a strong presence in Canada we work across borders to uplift communities and change lives.

But Na'amat is more than just social events and fundraising. We are hands-on. Many of us meet the women and families we support—whether at the Glickman Centre for the Prevention of Domestic Violence in Israel or in shelters across Canada, where we deliver school supplies to children in need.

About Na'amat Canada

Our members have visited vocational schools in Israel, meeting teens whose lives were changed through education programs that kept them off the streets. We've attended events prepared by Druze women grateful for support through our women’s rights centres. Some of us have even had the honour of placing the first shovel of earth at groundbreaking ceremonies for our growing network of daycare centres—now numbering nearly 200 across Israel.

Na'amat’s strength lies in the diversity of its members. We each bring different perspectives, talents, and ideas, but what unites us is a shared commitment to making a difference. We are constantly inspired by the dedication of Na'amat’s staff and volunteers and are proud to be part of this international sisterhood.
